Short answers to the questions that come up most

Can I have an existing Excel or VBA file taken over?

Yes — that's a separate service. We analyse the file, document what it does, and build on from there. See also what that involves.

What do you receive on delivery?

What you receive. Every delivery includes a working application, documentation of how it is put together, the test cases it was checked against, and a setup the next developer can take over. That is part of delivery, not extra work billed afterwards. With Excel and VBA the code sits inside the file itself, and we deliver the VBA project without a password on it: you can open the code and read it.

What you may do with it. The application is built to be used in your organisation, and that is what you may use it for. With a custom web application that is called a right of use; with Excel and VBA you hold the file itself. Whatever else was agreed is in the assignment.

Who holds the rights. Under the NLdigital Terms 2025 the intellectual property rights stay with the supplier unless something else is agreed in writing. If you want those rights, or the source code, transferred to you, that is a separate written agreement - the same for both kinds of work. Being able to read the code with Excel and VBA is therefore a different thing from holding the rights to it.

Your data is a different matter from the code. It is yours and it stays yours. How you get at it yourself - an export, a direct connection to the database, or something else - is agreed per application.

Which Excel versions and platforms do you build for?

We build custom VBA work for Excel on Windows, in Microsoft 365 or Office 2016 and later.

Two limits come with that, and they are technical. Excel for the web does not run VBA at all, and on the Mac VBA is limited - no Windows APIs, no ActiveX controls. That is not a caveat of ours; it is how Excel works there.

If working on a Mac or in a browser is a requirement, the route lies elsewhere: Google Sheets or a custom web application. We would rather establish that beforehand than halfway through.

How does maintenance work after delivery?

Through one point of contact. Changes, questions and faults do not get passed from one person to the next: you report them in one place and they are picked up there.

Exactly how that is arranged we agree per assignment. Some applications run for years without needing anything; others evolve with the process they support. For business-critical applications we record the arrangement in a maintenance agreement, so that it does not depend on who happens to have time.

A service level agreement can be part of that. What goes into it depends on what the application does and on what a day of downtime costs you. So there is no standard package that applies to every application; we agree together which arrangements suit yours and record them in the maintenance agreement.

What drives the cost?

The scope of the work, the number of data sources, the integrations with other systems, and with an existing file, how much of it can be kept. That is why there are no prices on this page: they follow from reviewing your requirements, as a no-obligation quote or a time-and-materials arrangement.

Do you also work with Google Sheets instead of Excel?

Yes, the same approach and the same precision, but in the browser and instantly shareable with your team.
